Practice Areas

Criminal Law
The goal of Criminal law is to give fair warning what conduct is prohibited. Sometimes the goal of prosecution for criminal offenses is to prevent others from committing similar prohibited acts in the future or to protect the community from the person convicted. The goal should also be to promote the rehabilitation of offenders.
Some crimes are more serious than others. A felony is more serious than a misdemeanor and is punishable by imprisonment for more than one year. Greg has defended people accused of committing misdemeanors, such as speeding offenses, and people accused felonies, such as Sexual Assault and First-Degree Murder.

Dependency Law
Child dependency cases are most often brought by the State when the the Department of Child Safety (DCS) claim parents are unwilling or unable to provide for a child’s basic needs. Establishing dependency is the first step. If parents do not admit the child is dependent then there is a trial where the court listens to evidence and decides if the child is dependent. If dependency is established, then the Court must decide if parental rights should be terminated or if the family can be reunited. If parents do not agree to severance then there is a trial where the court listens to evidence and decides if the parental rights should be terminated. If severance is ordered, then the Court must establishing new guardianship provisions for the child. In the past 3 years as an attorney representing parents, Greg handled trials over both dependency and severance.
